Conservation of Photographic Negatives
This web site is the result of a research project which deals with aspects of archiving historical negatives in terms of conservation. It provides a broad survey of historic negative processes, their technique, identification and degradation processes. Furthermore different methods of archiving and conserving photographic negatives are presented.
The aim is to present a platform on which professionals in the field of archiving, preservation and conservation of photography can get information for their everyday projects. Besides that it provides the opportunity to discuss the content of the site and to contribute personal experiences relating to identification or conservation.
Through the cooperation of the
FHTW Berlin (University of Applied Sciences, Course for Preservation and Conseravtion/ Audiovisual and Photographic Heritage)
and the
Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam
the state of knowledge was investigated, summarized and illustrated by examples over a period of two years. Thus a comprehensive image database of processes and deterioration characteristics will be made available on this site. A small part already exists.
After completion of the research project by the end of March 2007 the composition of this site will be further worked out. Hopefully also by the contribution of its users. At the moment this site is still under construction and many parts of the text and a large number ofimages haven't been filled in yet. These will be worked out in the future.
Most written can be found in English and German, also the user interface can be set to one of the both languages in the personal toolbar on the left after creating an account.
Anyone who feels called upon can create an account to participate in discussions, extensions and revisions. Some guidelines are compiled under Guidelines.

Die Restaurierung von fotografischen Negativen
Diese Internetseite beschäftigt sich mit der Konservierung und Restaurierung von historischen S/W-Negativen. Sie bietet einen ausführlichen Überblick über die historischen Negativverfahren, ihrer Technik, Identifizierung und Abbauerscheinungen. Außerdem werden verschiedene Methoden zu ihrer Archivierung und Restaurierung vorgestellt.
Langfristiges Ziel ist es eine Plattform zu bieten, auf der Professionelle aus dem Bereich Restaurierung, Konservierung und Archivierung und von Fotografie, Informationen für ihre tägliche Arbeit finden. Ein wichtiger Aspekt dabei ist die Möglichkeit über Inhalte zu diskutieren, sie durch eigene Texte und Bilder zu erweitern und persönliche Erfahrungen im Hinblick auf Identifizierung und Restaurierung einfließen zu lassen.
Möglich wurde dieses Projekt durch ein Forschungsvorhaben, welches im Rahmen einer Kooperation der
FHTW Berlin (Studiengang Konservierung und Restaurierung/ Audiovisuelles und Fotografisches Kulturgut)
und des
Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam
realisiert wurde.
Innerhalb zweier Jahre wurde der aktuelle Publikationsstand recherchiert, zusammengefasst und durch Beispiele aus verschiedenen Sammlungen illustriert. Daher wird eine umfangreiche Bilddatenbank der Verfahren und Abbauerscheinungen auf dieser Seite zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Ein kleiner Teil davon ist schon zugänglich.
Nach Abschluss des Forschungsprojektes im März 2007 wird noch weiter an der Ausarbeitung dieser Seite gearbeitet. Hoffentlich auch durch den Beitrag ihrer Nutzer. Momentan befindet dich die Seite noch im Aufbau, einige Bereiche wurden noch nicht durch Text oder Bilder gefüllt.
Die meisten Texte wurden in englischer und deutscher Sprache verfasst. Es wird in Zukunft, davon abhängen, in welcher Sprache neue Seiten verfasst werden. Eine Suche in beiden Sprachen wird daher vermutlich zu mehr Ergebnissen führen. Auch die Benutzer-Oberfläche läßt sich in der werkzeugleiste nach Einrichtung eines accounts auf eine der beiden Sprachen anpassen.
Interessierte können sich einen account einrichten, um dann auch an Diskussionen, Erweiterungen und Überarbeitungen teilnehmen zu können. Einige Richtlinien wurden unter Leitfaden zusammengetragen

Conservazione dei Negativi Fotografici
Questo sito web è il risultato di un progetto di ricerca che riguarda gli aspetti della conservazione dei negativi fotografici. Contiene un' ampia rassegna di procedimenti fotografici storici, descrive le tecniche con cui erano realizzati e fornisce informazioni sulla loro dentificazione e il loro degrado. Sono presentati diversi trattamenti conservativi e metodi di archiviazione.
Lo scopo è di offrire una piattaforma in grado di fornire informazioni sulla conservazione, tutela e restauro dei negativi fotografici e di rendere disponibili informazioni a chi opera a contatto di questi preziosi materiali. Il sito permette anche di discutere i contenuti inseriti ed aggiungere informazioni derivate dalle personali esperienze relative ai temi e soggetti trattati.

Questo progetto è stato realizzato dopo un lavoro di ricerca, sintesi e reperimento delle fonti iconografiche della durata di due anni. Su questo sito verranno riversati e resi disponibili tutti i dati raccolti. Una piccola parte è già presente ed è destinata ad essere implementata in tempi brevi
Il progetto di ricerca dovrebbe terminare a marzo 2007 e il sito subirà ulteriori ampliamenti. Per realizzare un sito funzionale e completo contiamo anche sulla collaborazione degli utenti che sonoinvitati a registrarsi e a portare il loro contributo. Al momento il sito è in via di costruzione e molte parti sia di testo che di immagini non sono ancora state inserite.
La maggior parte dei testi sono disponibili in tedesco e in inglese , l'interfaccia utente può essere impostata nella lingua desiderata utilizzando l'area delle impostazioni personali che apparirà sulla sinistra dello schermo dopo che avrete creato il vostro account personale.
