- first sold as sheets with proportions of the plate cameras (should displace gelatin dry plates), special holder served compatibility

- later roll holder for 12 to 24 exposures by Eastman (with William H. Walker): very successful, very sensitive paper

- disadvantages: paper fibers visible, big formats (5x7’’, 6,5x8,5’’, 8x10’’) and complicated procedure

- film cut into single exposures before development (susceptible to failure) and development
