Stabilization of Folds and Tears in the Paper Base
From Conservation of photographic negatives
| Conservation Treatments |
(ALBRIGHT et al., 2003)
- Folds in unwaxed paper negatives can be treated similar to breaks in positive paper prints
- Folds in waxed paper negatives can be treated with a warmed spatula or tacking iron (additional moistening possible): be careful not to change transparency or brilliance of the negative
- Repairing of tears with wheat starch or Klucel G, additionally enforced by a strip of Japanese paper mostly changes the properties of a negative too much (this can slightly be reduced by retouching or tinting of the Japanese paper, application of wax maybe combined with gloss reduction agents)
